Minor changes to templates

Since last time, I’ve made some changes to the templates regarding the music library management system, added book and author templates, tried out some new plugins and started using tags for basic things.
Read a little bit about the new .canvas type of file for Obsidian, based on the JSON format.
Currently I’m thinking about maybe putting down some groundwork for a possible personal use API, that lets me leverage this database of markdown files.

Regarding some new plugins

Started using “Ozan’s Image in Editor” plugin, found it very useful and almost essential if you want to embed images frequently inside notes.
I’m planning to try out the “Annotator” plugin for reading pdf and epub files, and also “Icons Folder” paired with “Banners”, purely for aesthetic reasons.
Discovered the “Obsidian-Pandoc” for quickly exporting notes in various formats, almost as fast as I’m used to it in the terminal.
I personally find the “Citations” plugin incredible, really cuts down time for writing the bibliography and the various citations, as it directly interfaces you with the Zotero library.

Some examples

Templates

The following are the templates I’m currently using:

Books dashboard

Here are some examples with the relative dataview queries regarding the sort-of-dashboards that I use.
notion image
TABLE WITHOUT ID ("![]("+cover+")") as Cover, file.link as Book, series as Series, author as Author, genre as Genre, year as Year, type as Type FROM #book WHERE status = "Reading" SORT year ASC
notion image
TABLE WITHOUT ID ("![]("+cover+")") as Cover, file.link as Book, series as Series, author as Author, genre as Genre, year as Year, type as Type FROM #book WHERE status = "Read" SORT year ASC

Book and Author pages

An example of a Book with the relative YAML metadata:
notion image
An author page with the updated dataview query:
notion image
TABLE WITHOUT ID ("![]("+cover+")") as "Total: ", file.link as Book, series as Series, year as Year, genre as Genre, status as Status FROM "Personal/Catalog/Library/Books" WHERE author=this.file.name SORT year desc

Album and Artist pages

An example of an Album with the relative YAML metadata:
notion image
An Artist page with the updated dataview query:
notion image
TABLE WITHOUT ID ("![]("+Cover+")") as "Total: ", file.link as Album, Year, Format, Vinyl, ("[Spotify]("+Spotify+")") as Online FROM "Personal/Catalog/Music/Albums" WHERE Artist=this.Alias SORT Year desc

Music Library dashboard

And the new music library dashboard:
notion image
TABLE WITHOUT ID ("![]("+Cover+")") as Cover, file.link as Album, Artist, Year, Genre, Format, Vinyl, ("[Spotify]("+Spotify+")") as Online FROM "Personal/Catalog/Music/Albums" SORT Artist ASC

Some new ideas

So, for the next time, I hope to put in place some templates for managing work related projects, track progress across various assignments regarding clients, maybe start keeping track of how much I actually use certain plugins.
I’m really planning to check and read up on this new .canvas format and maybe use it to link various notes and attachments together, although I’m a bit biased about mind maps, used to love ‘em during high school.
Also I know this, but it’s not really a priority for me, I’ll have to come up with some kind of styling for the tables generated using dataview.
Till then, Alons-y! 👋
